Tom Chambers - Update

Saccharine Perch: Tom Chambers

Tom Chambers' mysterious, spiritual photomontages, which first appeared on Photo-Dialogue back in September 2009, gained a number of plaudits and awards last year.  This image, 'Saccharine Perch', won First Place in Fine Arts during Fotoweek DC 2009 and a Gold Award in the International Aperture Awards.

Meanwhile, 'The Goatherd' took First Place in the Digital Enhanced category of the Worldwide Photography Gala Awards.

This weekend, Tom has a second show at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Los Angeles.

In a note from Tom, he says that "Modernbook Gallery will present my photography at Art LA from Thursday, January 21st to Sunday, January 24th. If you are in the area, please stop by to see my work."

I wish I could.... I'll have to wait for the UK show.

If a trip to LA would be a bit of a stretch then check out Tom's work at:

Oooo, these photos are gorgeous!! Thanks for posting! I wish I could see them in person.

On another topic, did you notice what happened when Jim Nachtwey put up an add for an unpaid internship? The comments and criticisms hurled at him are interesting:

Hey Lynda,

That Nachtwey thread is impressive! Not sure what to think - education is expensive these days - and there would be a considerable opportunity there... When I was doing my photog degree I was lucky enough to work for some well known photographers who paid me generously. And looking back, I'm kind of embarrassed because, believe me, I knew NOTHING! (But learned fast.....;-)

Perhaps David Alan Harvey's comment from Burn (about half way down the list) offers a bit of balance within all the vitriol.

Mark,

Thanks for your comment - like Lynda I would love to see Tom's images up close - the good old 72dpi screen shots hardly do them justice.

Also, there are so many of them - Tom sure puts the time in.... his website is well worth an hour or so...
