Promotion

The client was a talented technical specialist who had been recently promoted to run a department of nearly 40 similarly talented, difficult-to-manage individuals.  From an initial stance expressed as 'keeping my head down', the coaching engagement began to develop the client's strategic agenda while building confidence and exploring options for leadership.

After meeting for six times over the period of a year, the client felt that his confidence had grown enormously and was able to passionately articulate his aims for the group.  His leadership repertoire had matured from an simple, authoritaian model to include participative, consultative, conversational approaches which have strengthened relationships within the organisation and provide the basis for resilient success.

Rather than being overwhelmed by the change in role, the coaching relationship has enabled the client to choose carefully across a range of options for increasing the group performance.  He is now able to sense his potential in the role and has been accepted for an advanced leadership program.
